mish-mash of stuff

The past week has been, well, a mish-mash of this and that… to say the least! I think I know, I like to thoroughly ‘drown’ myself in mindless tasks to escape the ups & downs of life!

…of helping to care for an aged ‘mom’ and the uncertainty of the future and  difficulties that lie ahead. Of endless thoughts (and prayers) for a seriously troubled sibling. This totally drains me!

So, as I mentioned in my last post, I began with the task of cleaning the dungeon, um, basement. Oh my, how we accumulate STUFF! Stuff that piles up over the years. Stuff saved for ‘a rainy day’ to be re-used…some day? Thinning and organizing is always a picker-upper for me. Then I did a little more paperwork, ‘ya know, for filing those stink’n taxes! UGH!! I can only handle business finances in small doses!

Here’s a recap of odds and ends and a little bit of on-going creativity…

destashing

I found a dozen of these little wooden/heart ‘hangers’ when I was de-stashing. I decided to cover them with scrappy bits of tea-stained paper from an old romance novel and red tissue paper for the center heart. I could add more embellishments…beads, glitter, ribbon and more glitz. Perhaps they can be used to display little love notes, a vintage photo, mini works of art, etc??

sheep_twine hrt

I printed a few more of my curly sheep design onto card stock and crocheted a few mini hearts with red Baker’s twine. It’s a cute valentine for the sheep/fiber lover?

ewe_hrt card

Here’s another sheepy card version I made [I love ewe] some time ago. Print/rubber stamp a sheep [or any other favorite graphic, for that matter] onto card stock and trace a heart in the center. Remove the heart with a pair of sharp scissors or X-acto knife. Attach a ‘removable’ 3-D needle felted heart ornie [or any hand crafted/stitched heart] to the inside of the card so it peeks through the cut-out heart! Sweet and simply done!

Why not a few more ‘love’ banners…

This banner is made with cotton fabric, rubber stamped hearts [with craft paint] and satin ribbon .

felt hrts

This banner was made with wool scraps from a wet felting project [Wool scraps always go into the recycle bin.]. I cut out various size/shape hearts and simply embellished them with a few stitches using embroidery floss. Using mini clothes pins [available at craft stores… or in this case, my stash], I clipped them to a length of yarn to hang. IDEA: The felted hearts could also be stitched with a sentimental word or two [or a wedding date] and tucked in a card or given to a loved one! sigh

bowl

Of course, I knitted/felted a bowl or two…

…and, I’ve been working on my handspun wooly mittens for ME.

But, my most fav on-going project is my wet felted Shetland wall hanging.

wet felt project

I absolutely DROOL over Kelly’s, a fiber friend, wooly wall hanging that’s been for sale in the shop at Mt. Bruce for several years. It’s about time that I made a scaled-down version for myself! I recently transferred my sheepy logo onto the fabric/backing that I will locker hook with my white/natural Shetland roving and then hand stitch/applique it to my wet felted piece.

Oh hurry hurry hurry… such a happy place for me!
