August Already??!!!

My goodness…I can’t believe it’s August! Well, I’m glad to be back home from the Fiber Arts Festival in Charlevoix. It was a great festival; the weather was beautiful, the festival well attended and I got to meet some wonderful fiber folk!

All’s well down on the farm. Katie did a terrific job caring for the goats while I was away. She’s been working hard on all her 4-H projects. The Armada Fair is right around the corner…August 11 – 17. Katie will be showing her goats this year! Last week she gave them body clips and all buffed and polished…and boy do they look sleek!

After a day catching up in the veggie garden, you guessed it, back to fiber’n! I’ve been busy creating my flock of lambs, lavender and llamas – felted soap that is – four dozen will be making the trek to the Michigan Fiber Festival. The Michigan Fiber Festival is located in Allegan, MI and includes workshops beginning August 13 – 16; open to the public August 16 – 17. I’m unable to attend due to our local County Fair which runs concurrent with the fiber festival. But you can find my wooly soap for sale at Joan’s booth, Heritage Spinning & Weaving! Be sure to check out Joan’s beautiful hand-dyed yarn and lots of fiber goodies!

The felted soap is a fun novelty gift for all those fiber friends! Use a fragrant herb soap and wrap it in wooly. It’s like a little built-in wash cloth to help gently exfoliate your skin. Great for gardeners too. Some folk like to keep it with their yarn stash to keep bugs away. It also keeps the linen drawer smelling good! When the soap has ‘expired’, cut a slit into the felt and insert another bar of soap for more clean fun, or…

How about re-purposing that little bitty felt into a pocket purse? Add a few beads, a leather lace and perhaps a button and you’ve got a  sweet place to place your business cards, a bitty scissor – whatever else you might want to tuck inside! Whatever you decide, personalize it! It’s a fun little gift/project. I sure do love my sheepies! There’s always creative juices flowing but never enough time to fit it all into a days work. Life seems to slip in there and steal away time that would rather be spent ‘playing’! Not to worry, I’ll have opportunity to make more felted soap for the Mt. Bruce Fiber Festival and maybe even a few for my Holiday Open House later this fall in November. Check out my website for dates and more detail!

Happy fiber’n! Jen
