Over the past two days, my sheepies’ yarn has taken up residence in my kitchen – dye books and recipes on the kitchen table, dye pots on the stove and counter-tops, various stages of yarn soaking, cooking, cooling, rinsing…and finally, hung to air dry. Dyeing is a wonderfully creative and rewarding process…to see color ‘bloom’ [...]

Fun with…cotton candy?

Hello dear friends! Well, here’s a pic of the results of my dye day. It reminds me of cotton candy! I dyed pastel shades and a few more solid colors. I used farm-raised wool batts for this project.
It’s an easy project for first-time dyeing and very kid friendly! My daughter and her friend, Nicole, dyed [...]

Two Dog Alarm

I thought you might like to meet some of the ’staff’ at Sheepy Hollow. If you’ve already visited the farm, then you have already met the ‘welcoming comittee’. Bo is a Great Pyrenees and is usually roaming out back with the sheep and goats. He’s a working guard dog and supposedly drives off sheep predators. LOL

Howdy folks! Celebrate the arrival of Spring with us at the Metro Parks Wolcott Farm Learning Center during “Sheep Shearing Saturday”, tomorrow, from 11 am to 3 pm! Guest Supper Muffins

Here’s the recipe I promised I’d share today. I’ve been baking these muffins since I was around twelve years old. My mom was always great about allowing my sisters and I to bake, cook and ’play’ in her kitchen. The recipe was from a quick and easy bread book she had, as my dad preferred yeast breads and [...]

Color Me Happy

Well, my kitchen has been re-assembled after the fresh paint job and here is a little peek at the results. I like the contrast of the ‘wicker’ against the ‘linen’ crown molding and ceiling. It appears lighter in the natural light of day versus night. It feels good.  I’d like to apply a handmade ceramic sheepy motif as [...]

A Breath of Fresh Air Needed!

Yeah! After a month of Sundays, we finally finished painting the kitchen. I think we’ve painted the kitchen/eating area three times in the past 20 years since we’ve lived here. Let me say, I’m so happy with the results. It’s amazing what a little fresh paint will do for the mind and soul. And, in the process, [...]

Spring’s sprouting…

Who could resist ‘putzing’ in the garden this past Friday when we experienced mid 60’s and sunshine…in Michigan??! I think the temp was a record-breaker! My daughter (who had the day off from school – end of semester something or other?) and I managed to rake a few garden beds from all the wind-blown collected leaves. Under [...]
